The Northern Rivers Community Foundation celebrates 20 years and $10 million in community grants
A number of our Community Impact Foundation clients have recently shared the news that an organisation they support, the Northern Rivers Community Foundation (NRCF), has just celebrated 20 years and $10 million of giving to 645 community projects in the Byron, Tweed, Lismore and Richmond Valley region of NSW.
One wonderful Ethinvest client volunteers on the NRCF investment committee (NRCF) and shared an excellent video made for the organisations 20-year milestone.
The NRCF has catalysed positive change by supporting grassroots organisations addressing social and environmental problems including indigenous food security, supporting community women and girls, establishing EV charging stations in the region and protecting endangered species.
The NRCF has raised $2.1 million over its 20 years that is invested in a perpetual fund, not unlike the CIF. They collectively give away the interest and dividends from their investments in the form of grants. The NRCF recently supported a new women’s giving circle and resilience and a regeneration fund to help strengthen their region's ability to respond to disasters, not only in the immediate aftermath, but in the ongoing journey of recovery. Lismore and the areas surrounding it were decimated by flooding in early 2022 just as residents were recovering from previous disastrous flooding in 2017. Resilience funding is critically important for local residents impacted.
The NRCF is a great example of collective community action established to help build the community they want for the future.
